Mighty Tigers - Pre-school martial arts for children ages 4-6
Our Mighty Tigers program was created with a Child Development Specialist to meet the needs of our younger students - preschool / kindergarten range = to help them learn the foundations of self defense and karate. The Mighty Tigers classes are about learning to work together with other children, follow simple instructions and deal with class structure as they work on gross motor skills, balance and alignment, all while getting to wear a karate uniform, and earn patches.
The kids are introduced to karate basics, but it's not a fighting class. They do work on kicks and punches, but not on each other. They work blocks and learn the patterns, the early vocabulary of kenpo karate. The classes are one-half hour each and your child could do any two of the three offered each week. Classes are more play and games-oriented than the Kid's class. When a Mighty Tiger is ready for more goal-oriented efforts and an hour-long class they would move to the regular big kids' classes and start working on the techniques and kata required to earn the belts leading to their first Black Belt.
Respect
We begin teaching our tigers the very foundation of Kenpo Karate - Respect. Respect for each other, for the mat, for their teachers, and by doing their very best, for themselves. We teach them their voices are their first form of self defense.
Listening and Focus
We teach our tigers that there are times they must speak and other times they must listen. And that when their teachers are talking, they must pay attention and keep focus.
Basics of Karate
This class teaches the foundations of karate, from balance and coordination to stances, blocks and a short kata.
