Belt Requirements
On the left you'll see the different belts. Once you click on each belt, you'll see the requirments listed for each rank.
Use these as a guideline for what you should be learning for the test. Kids must be approved to test. Adults may test when they feel ready, and if they're not sure, an instructor will advise you.
Technique Cards
We use technique cards to track our goals and progress. We keep the cards in the front Lobby. There is also space to the right of each technique that you can use to write notes to yourself.
The card lists each attack and the countering self defense technique. It also lists each kata (or form) and set you will be demonstrating. And on the back is each martial arts basic that is introduced with the rank.
Sparring
Sparring is done during class as a way to develop reflexive action, to remove thought during self-defense, and to teach you how to take a hit.
Sparring during a test is optional for adults until Blue Belt. You are excused from sparring during a test if you have a condition that prohibits it, or if you have a pre-existing condition. Sparring during class is done under very controlled conditions.
Fight Class
If you wish to improve your sparring, the fight class is open to all, and does not count towards your class attendance. Proper gear is required, no exceptions.
